The Buffalo Legacy Trail is more than a walkway —it is a permanent tribute to the athletes, coaches, families, fans, veterans and community leaders who have shaped the rich tradition of Buffalo sports.
Every numbered section tells a story.
Now you have the opportunity to become part of that story.

That's what Adopt a Number is all about.
What Is the Adopt a Number Program?
The Buffalo Legacy Trail is divided into 99 numbered sections, each representing a number that has helped shape Buffalo’s rich sports history.
Each section contains approximately 140 commemorative bricks surrounding a permanent 2’ × 2’ Hero Marker honoring that number.
Individuals, families, businesses, foundations, booster clubs, schools, service organizations, and community groups have the opportunity to Adopt a Number and become the permanent Legacy Champion of that section.
Rather than simply sponsoring a project, Legacy Champions help preserve Buffalo’s sports heritage while creating a gathering place that future generations can enjoy for decades to come.
How It Works
1. Choose a Number
Select the number, player, person, organization, or story you want to champion.
2. Become the Legacy Champion
Your family, business, foundation, or organization adopts that section.
3. Build Your Legacy Community
Bring together friends, families, customers, alumni, neighbors, teammates, veterans, or supporters to leave their own permanent mark through commemorative bricks.
4. Celebrate for Generations
Return year after year to celebrate birthdays, honor heroes, remember loved ones, host
reunions, and create traditions that live on for generations.
